The BRiTE (Building Resilience in Teacher Education) program has been developed in Australia through a nationally funded teacher education project supported by the Australian Government Office for Learning and Teaching and launched in 2015. Created by a team of Australian teacher educators, the program has since been used by pre-service teachers, practising teachers, teacher educators and school leaders in Australia and internationally.
The aim of this program is to help trainee teachers build their awareness of the skills and practices that will help facilitate resilience in their teaching career.
The program contains five online interactive learning modules focused on Building resilience, Relationships, Wellbeing, Taking initiative and Emotions. Throughout each module, participants can take self-quizzes, learn about skills and strategies, view videos, apply skills to realistic situations, learn about what experts in the field have found and build their own personal resilience toolkit.
To support use in the UK context, colleagues from Edge Hill University have contributed additional resources, videos, examples and links to the Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework (ITTECF) for use in schools in England. These enhancements complement the original BRiTE framework while maintaining the core structure, concepts and learning design of the Australian program.
